Turkish president approves new cabinet led by Erdogan
ANKARA, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Prime Minister-designate Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that Turkey's newly-elected President Abdullah Gul had approved his new cabinet.
Erdogan, also chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), said that the president has approved the 60th government formed by him.
The moderate Islamic AKP successfully guarded its position as ruling party in the 23rd parliamentary elections held on July 22 with 46.5 percent of votes.
Following the elections victory, Erdogan submitted resignation for his 59th government to President Ahmed Necdet Sezer and commenced on forming a new cabinet.
But the outgoing President Sezer had declined to approve Erdogan's new cabinet list, leaving the decision to the new president to be elected.
