EBay earnings jump 50% in 2nd quarter
NEW YORK, July 18 (Xinhua) -- EBay Inc. reported Wednesday a 50-percent-surge in the second-quarter earnings due to strong growth in its online payments business.
The company reported earnings of 375.8 million dollars, or 27 cents per share, compared with earnings of 250 million dollars, or17 cents a share, for the same period last year.
Revenue for the quarter came in at 1.83 billion dollars, up 30 percent from 1.4 billion dollars for the same period last year.
Much of the growth came from the company's payments business.
For the year, the company expects revenue to be between 7.3 billion dollars and 7.45 billion dollars, with earnings between 1.34 dollars and 1.38 dollars per share, up from the previous guidance range of 1.30 dollars to 1.34 dollars.
