UN chief to visit Haiti, Barbados next week
UNITED NATIONS, July 26 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is to pay official visits to Haiti and Barbados next week, UN deputy spokesperson Marie Okabe said Thursday.
In Port-au-Prince, Ban plans to meet with President Rene Preval and visit the headquarters of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti.
The secretary-general will also meet with the president of the Senate and the speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, as well as leaders from civil society, political parties and the private sector, and the Commission of Justice reform.
In Barbados, which holds the current chair of the Caribbean Community, the secretary-general is expected to meet with the Prime Minister Owen Arthur and other official, as well as with the UN country team, Okabe said.
