WARSAW, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski dismissed on Wednesday Jacek Kaczmarek, interior minister since February 2007, in connection with the Central Anti-corruption Bureau (CBA) investigation over illegal land deals in the agriculture ministry, which rocked the ruling coalition four weeks ago.

"The president has accepted my request to recall Janusz Kaczmarek from his post," J. Kaczynski told reporters.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski interrupted his seaside vacations, returned to Warsaw and handed appointment papers to Wladyslaw Stasiak, the new interior minister, Polish PAP news agency reported.

Stasiak, 40, had headed the presidential National Security Office since August, 2006. Earlier he served as deputy interior minister under Ludwik Dorn.

    J. Kaczynski said he had lost confidence in Kaczmarek after their conversation of Tuesday which concerned the CBA operation. "My confidence was abused very drastically," he added.

The leakage on the CBA operation made it impossible to crown it with success. The operation was designed to gather evidence against ex-deputy Prime Minister Andrzej Lepper.

    J. Kaczynski also said police chief Konrad Kornatowski would be replaced. His successor would be chosen by Stasiak, the new interior minister. Minutes later Kornatowski declared he would resign.

Kaczmarek said Wednesday in a statement he was not the source of the leak.
