MOSCOW, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Georgia said on Wednesday a Russian aircraft had violated its airspace for a second time this month, but Russia denied the accusation.

"The aircraft that ventured into Georgian airspace from Russia flew at an altitude of 4,000 meters at a speed of 470-490 km per hour and penetrated 5 km inside Georgian territory," the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Georgia has registered two similar violations this month and the recent intrusion of Russian aircraft into the country's airspace occurred near the village of Omarishara, in Upper Abkhazia on Tuesday, said the statement.

"In connection with the aforesaid incident it has lodged a note of protest to the Russian Foreign Ministry for prompt and clear explanations," the statement said.

"The violation of the airspace was recorded by both military and civilian radar," Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Batu Kutelia was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying on Wednesday.

The fact "would have been considered a simple violation, but following the Aug. 6 incident it has gained particular importance," Kutelia said.

Earlier this month, Georgia said a Russian plane entered the country's airspace and dropped an unexploded missile on Aug. 6.

However, Russian Air Force spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky denied the accusation, saying Russian aircraft had been nowhere near Georgian frontiers.

"Russian Air Force planes on Aug. 21 carried out no flights along the Georgian border and there were no violations of Georgian airspace," the spokesman was quoted by Itar-Tass as saying.
