All 3,200 trapped miners rescued in South Africa(1)
A miner, who was trapped underground, emerges from Harmony Gold's Elandsrand mine near Carletonville, about 110 km west to Johannesburg, South Africa, Oct. 4, 2007. A total of 3200 workers were trapped about 2200 meters underground on Wednesday, after a pipe fell into the lift shaft and cut off the power supply to the lift normally used to hoist workers out of the mine. All the trapped miners have been rescued without casualties, Harmony Gold said Thursday. (Xinhua/South African Press Association)
