Nikkei fails to maintain 16,000
TOKYO, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks fell Wednesday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 112.46 points, or 0.70 percent, from Tuesday to end at 15,932.26.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 10.09 points, or 0.64 percent, to 1,556.93.
On the First Section, declining issues outnumbered advancing ones 838 to 753, with 132 others finishing unchanged.
Value leader Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group was down 3 yen to 1,225 yen.
Trading volume on the main section came to 2,118.13 million shares, up from Tuesday's 1,688.59 million.
The TSE's Second Section index edged up 3.65 points, or 0.11 percent, to 3,397.40 on a volume of 68.14 million shares.
On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term December Nikkei225 index futures contract fell 180 points to 15,900.
