Bush to meet British PM early next week
WASHINGTON, July 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush is due to have talks with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Camp David early next week, the White House announced Thursday.
Brown will arrive Sunday night and have dinner and meetings at Camp David, Maryland on Monday, White House spokesman secretary Tony Snow, accompanying Bush on a trip to Philadelphia, told reporters.
The two leaders will focus on "continuing to move forward on issues of shared interests and concerns," including the U.S. effort to build a missile defense system in Eastern Europe, Iraq, Iran, Kosovo and Darfur, Snow said.
It will be Brown's first visit to the United States since he became Britain's new prime minister last month.
Britain has long been a staunch ally of the United States, and supports the Iraq war launched by the Bush administration. The change of premiership has prompted speculation that Britain might accelerate troop withdrawals from Iraq.
Britain has been gradually withdrawing its troops from Iraq. It now has about 5,500 troops in southern Iraq.
