Chinese Teams Advance at Beach Volleyball Open
All three Chinese women duos have advanced into the winner's bracket in the third round at the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour Finland Open after clinching the opening two matches on Wednesday.
Seeded 12th in the double-elimination Finland Open, China's number three Wang Lu and Zuo Man scored wins over teams from Latvia and Sweden to earn a Thursday meeting with fourth-seeded Talita Antunes and Renata Ribeiro of Brazil as the Chinese pair is seeking to win three straight matches in the winner's bracket for the first-time this season.
"Our goal is to get over the barrier and reach the finals of the winner's bracket," said 25-year-old Wang, who did reach a SWATCH gold medal match last season in Athens with Ji Linjun.
The winner of the Wang/Zuo versus Talita/Renata match will challenge either top seeds Juliana/Larissa or eighth-seeded Rieke Brink-Abeler/Hella Jurich of Germany for a spot in Friday's first semi-final match.
China's number one and number two Tian Jia/Wang Jie and Xue Chen/Zhang Xi also posted 2-0 main draw marks each Wednesday and will face teams from Brazil and Greece in their opening winner's bracket matches Thursday.
The second-seeded Tian and Wang will play seventh-seeded Vassiliki Arvaniti and Vasso Karadassiou of Greece while third-seeded Xue and Zhang play 11th-seeded Ana Paula Connelly and Adriana Behar, Brazil's newest team.
