Diarrhea situation aggravating in Bangladesh
DHAKA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The diarrhea situation in post-flood Bangladesh is worsening as about 50 patients are coming every hour to the special hospital in the capital Dhaka, hospital expert said.
Dr. Shahdat Hossain, an expert in the International Center for Diarrhea Disease and Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB), said during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Saturday, over 1,000 patients were admitted to the hospital.
Dr. Hossain said, "if this situation continues, it will be impossible for us to take new patients."
The authorities of ICDDRB have set up two big size makeshift camps to treat the diarrhea patients. Still the authorities are saying it will be difficult for them to accept new patients.
Health Ministry statistics said over 50,000 people have been affected by diarrhea since the end of July.
The worst flood since 1998 has affected 39 of 64 districts in Bangladesh and killed 554 people so far.
