Pakistani Minister for Religious Affairs Ejaz-ul-Haq on Thursday said that Islamabad-based Lal Masjid or Red Mosque is being opened for people on Friday for regular prayers, state-run APP news agency reported.

The mosque is being opened for prayers while roads around the mosque would also be opened for the public, the Associated Press of Pakistan quoted the minister as saying.

The minister said that demolished premises would be rebuilt.

Pakistan's Spokesman of Interior Ministry Javed Iqbal Cheema on July 24 said Capital Development Authority was working day and night to renovate the Lal Masjid and it would be hopefully opened for the coming Friday prayers, according to an earlier APP report.

Troops besieged the Lal Masjid mosque and seminary compound on July 4 after some religious students belonging to the mosque's affiliated Jamia Hafsa seminary first attacked policemen deployed outside the mosque.

The security forces launched a full scale military operation against the defiant armed militants inside compound on July 10 after a talk negotiated through religious scholars failed to convince the militants to surrender. The operation ended on July 11.
